Dana White: “Vitor drives me crazy…”

UFC President Dana White appreciates the manner in which middleweight Vitor Belfort performs inside the cage. However, it’s clear the organization’s head honcho has a different opinion when it comes to the way Belfort operates outside of the Octagon.

White was asked about Belfort’s antics regarding the Brazilian’s refusal to fight at 185 pounds and risk an expected title-shot, preferring to instead compete outside of the division he normally calls home. As such, the outspoken executive has an idea, offering “The Phenom” an opportunity to face teammate Rashad Evans at 205 pounds.

“Vitor doesn’t want (the Tim Kennedy) fight. So I said, okay, let’s do him and Rashad then (at light heavyweight). He wants to fight at a heavier weight, let’s do him and Rashad,” said White in a comment captured by MMAWeekly at a 2013 UFC World Tour stop in Los Angeles. “I haven’t heard back on that yet.”

Its likely White isn’t holding his breath while waiting on Belfort to respond, though he is definitely scratching his head at the iconic brawler’s actions.

“First of all, Vitor’s calling out Chael Sonnen? Chael hasn’t even fought yet. Chael’s fighting Mauricio Rua. Vitor drives me crazy, man. Lorenzo Fertitta can deal with Vitor, not me,” the frustrated White concluded.

Belfort has come out victorious in a quartet of consecutive clashes at middleweight since losing to then-champion Anderson Silva with finishes in each winning performance. He holds an overall record of 23-10 including sixteen strike-based stoppages.
